SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGER - LAURENS, IOWA USA

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the day-to-day activities of procuring raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, etc. necessary for the manufacturing operation, along with inventory control, material flow, lead time reduction and forecasting.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures necessary raw materials, parts, supplies, etc. are available at the plant to fulfill manufacturing orders.
  • Researches and evaluates suppliers based on the price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier’s reputation and history.
  • Uses a combination of MRP and lean replenishment techniques to make decisions on stocking and/or Supermarket/Kanban sizing.
  • Sets up and adjusts Kanban systems to meet business needs and sets up Supermarkets to improve material flow.
  • Monitors Syteline Material Requirement Planning reports and responds to changes as they relate to open purchase orders.
  • Prepares purchase orders, solicits bid proposals and reviews requisitions for goods and services.
  • Responsible for tracking and maintaining purchase orders from creation to close.
  • Monitors shipments to ensure that goods arrive on time, and in the event of problems, contacts vendors and follows-up on problems.
  • Attends vendor meetings to learn about products, services and prices.
  • Evaluates inventory to control levels and conducts cycle counting of inventory.
  • Conducts current and future forecasting analysis and makes adjustments to forecast based on changes in demand and market trends.
  • Develops a negotiation strategy that delivers against business objectives and achieves sustainable relationships with suppliers.
  • Negotiates supplier returns on non-conforming materials and manages the impact of engineering changes, etc.
  • Visits key vendor facilities as a means of improving supplier performance.

 

Organizational Relationships:

This individual reports to the Director, Operations, and must be capable of working well with our plant personnel and earning their respect.  The Buyer will report to this position.

 

Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Science degree required; Associate degree in a technical program acceptable.  Minimum of 10 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.  Problem solving skills and demonstrated decision making skills are required.  Previous experience in negotiating contracts, etc. required.  Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel), along with experience using a MRP system preferred.  Attention to detail and follow-up skills a must.  Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.  Familiar with the lean manufacturing pull system.

All exempt employees must have technical competency, ability, and desire to work with people in the team concept and be innovative.  All exempt employees are expected to participate in internal programs, communications, work simplification, cost reduction, quality improvement, JIT, and TQC.

DUTIES: This position is accountable for effective administration of materials, requisitions, placement and follow up of purchase orders for assigned commodities, supplies or services, and for conduct of supplier relations resulting in successful support of organization, division and     corporate objectives.

EDUCATION:  Bachelor degree or equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE:  Receives requisitions and reviews for completeness and necessary information. Selects reliable sources, requests bids as necessary, evaluates quotations and makes recommendations for final supplier selection. Investigates and evaluates new sources of supply. Monitor, analyze, and administer daily decisions in support of the formal MRP actions and Kanban requirements. Minimum of 5 years of purchasing/supplier quality related experience required.
